First Parish Church is a faith community, led by the Holy Spirit and gathered to worship, learn, and grow in Christ. We are an Open and Affirming Church, welcoming all to participate fully in the life of our church family and its ministries.
First Parish Church was established in 1633, just 10 years after the original settlement of Dover. Throughout the centuries, First Parish has been an active and vital participant in the fabric of the city and its people. First Parish Church is Open and Affirming, welcoming all to participate fully in the life of our church family, its ministries, fellowship, leadership, rites, and sacraments, regardless of race, ethnicity, social or economical situation, sexual orientation or gender identity. Our Sunday School program begins at 9:30 am in Nazareth Hall for children and their families. At 9:55 am, we move upstairs to the sanctuary for worship. Join us for Sunday worship at 10:00 am followed by coffee hour in Fellowship Hall. Come and see what we're all about! We seek to make this a community in which all can participate. You will find an elevator in the Atrium and parking spaces in our lot marked for those with ambulatory restrictions and for our visitors. Additional parking is available on Church St as well as behind St Mary’s School next to us and across the street at Bob's Automotive, not in front of their garage doors. All are welcome here!

The pastor says that Easter Sunrise Worship is a "go" for Hilton park tomorrow morning, but maybe bring an umbrella just in case (also a lawnchair if you would like to sit at all). Current forecast has the rain clearing out overnight. It may be more of a lightening of the clouds than a true sunrise, but we will celebrate Easter at 5:52 am in a glorious fashion.
Sunday School will not meet tomorrow! We invite all children present for the Easter service to gather at 9:50 in the narthex to prepare for the processional of the flowers that will begin our Easter service. See you there!
Our Adult Discussion Group will NOT meet on Easter Sunday---see you in church!
A Festive Easter Service in our sanctuary tomorrow at 10 am! Worship message by Pastor Paige Besse-Rankin: "Fake News", Children's Message by Pastor Paige, and Ministry of Music with Rick Gremlitz and The First Parish Choir, The First Parish Ringers, and Jeannie Goodwin on piano. Child care is available during the service. ALL are welcome and invited to join us for Easter fellowship and refreshments following the service in the church Fellowship Hall.
"The Greening of the Cross" - Join us tomorrow morning at 5:52 am for an Easter Sunrise Service at Hilton Park on Dover Point.
A Moment in History...April 19, 1865 Bells were tolled throughout the day for President Abraham Lincoln, who was assassinated on April 15, 1865. Guns fired every 30 minutes from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Flags draped in mourning were displayed throughout the city. Services were held at the Unitarian, Congregational, Belknap, Episcopal and Calvin Baptist Churches.
Maundy Thursday... Join us tonight at 6:15 pm for a Silent Meal in Fellowship Hall, then at 7:00 pm for a Service of Tenebrae and Holy Communion in the sanctuary.
"The estimated expense of repairs that are absolutely necessary are over $1200. This will make it necessary to do one of two things, cut some of our regular parish expenses or create a debt. Which shall it be?" From the Warden's annual reports during the pastorate of Rev. Coe 1918-1921
Due to illness, our Lunchtime Devotion and evening Many Ways to Pray series will not be held tomorrow, April 17.
A Lenten Reflection: When it was time, Jesus gathered with his disciples. The story can seem predictable. And yet for all the predictability, we read the story again year after year, and marvel at the selflessness of Jesus who is prepared to stop at nothing---not even death--to proclaim God's unconditional and never ending love. Read the Passion story from Luke, then pause and notice things that surprise you.
After worship today, our traditional Palm Sunday dinner! Fellowship was the main course! Thank you to our hosts, the Christian Education Committee.
Today in Our Church...The Story of Holy Week from the Gospel of Luke told through the shadows of our Sunday School children!
